Okay, I am really excited to share this information with you guys. There is nothing I love more than fresh produce in the summer, so I have decided to buy a share in a Community Supported Farm (CSA). CSA Farms are local farms that sell straight to the people in the community. You buy a share at the beginning of the season and then each week you’ll get a box of what is fresh and ripe that week. It benefits everyone--the farmer has a guaranteed buyer for their crop and the consumer has produce that was picked at peak ripeness and delivered to them the next day. Now, it is a bit like Forrest Gump's box of chocolates in that you never quite know what you're gonna get from week to week--it just depends on what's coming off that week. You can purchase a share that will feed 2 people or a share that will feed 4-6. You can also freeze anything you can't use!There are several drop-off points. Mine is the Kmart parking lot every Tuesday at 5:30. (They have a Nashville and Wilson drop-off as well.) There is a little bit of a risk--if the weather is bad, crops can be affected and your box might be a little less attractive!! Oh yeah, some of the farms will even let you bring the kids out for a tour. I am partnering with a farmer out of Spring Hope named Andrew Strickland. They are heading into the 4th week of a 15 week season and he will pro-rate the regular fee since we've already missed the first 3 weeks. If you decide to do this, be sure to tell him that Melody Page from Extreme Ways to Save referred you (I don't get any sort of discount--I just want him to know where all the extra business is coming from!)
