Funny Thought!

Funny thought to share: I never realized how much my couponing influenced my grandchildren until one day my 6 yr. old grandson accompanied me, as he frequently did, to the grocery store. He picked up something he wanted, ran to me and instead of saying, "Mimi can I have this?" he said, "Mimi, do you have a coupon for this?" I realized in that moment that my response to his requests for things was determined by whether or not I had a coupon for that item and HE had learned that as well!! I hope that lesson is instilled in him for the rest of his life! … [Read more...]

How To’s Part 2

Extreme How-To's--The Secrets! Many people do not understand two very important principles when couponning. First of all, just because you have a coupon does not mean you need to use it. Many think that if they have a cereal coupon for .75 off and their cereal is $3 a box, they just hand the cashier that coupon and pay $2.25 for the cereal. That is most definitely NOT how to save the most money couponning. The best course of action would be to hold on to that coupon until that cereal is on sale, maybe B1G1F or maybe 2/$4 at a grocery store that doubles coupon values. In our area, that's Harris Teeter.  That .75 off coupon is now worth $1.50. If the cereal is B1G1F, it would ring up for $1.50 a box--you do not have to purchase two boxes. In other words, your cereal cost $1.50, your coupon is worth $1.50, your cereal is now FREE!! If it is 2/$4, your final cost is just .50.  The other thing most people don't know is that everything in your grocery store (with the exception of some specialty items) will go on sale at some point in time over the next 8-12 weeks. So when you cereal is FREE or .50 a box, you buy enough to last for the next 8-12 weeks. This is what couponers call "STOCKPILING". Now, if you've seen some of the recent coverage regarding couponers hoarding garage-filled stashes of food and supplies, let me encourage you by telling you that is not the norm. My "stockpile" fits nicely in my pantry, freezer, and one additional metal storage cabinet in my office.  You'll also have to change the way you shop on a weekly basis. No longer will you go into the store and  just pick up the things you're out of. You will now PRIMARILY buy the things that are "dirt cheap" or cheap, and you'll stock up on those. Next week, you'll buy another group of "dirt-cheap" or free items, and within 4-6 weeks, you will suddenly look around and realize that you really have everything you need to prepare great meals. You will also transition from … [Read more...]

Walgreens How To’s Part 2

Also, you need to know that you cannot use RR earned off of a product to pay for that same product or anything made by the same manufacturer--if you do, another RR will not print for that purchase. In other words, if I earned $3 RR from the Crest Mouthwash, I would not buy another Crest product right after that. I would alternate with the Pantene or Suave. Register Rewards usually expire within two weeks so keep an eye on the expiration dates. Here's a recap of the rules: Customer Rewards Program: Register Rewards. You cannot have more coupons than items. You cannot use RR earned from one purchase to pay for that same item if you want more RR. Expire quickly. No change given back if you don’t spend it all. One last thing, Walgreen's issues store coupons in their weekly ad AND in a monthly coupon booklet found at the front of the store. These can be combined with manufacturer coupons and RR for some AWESOME deals. Just remember, you cannot have more coupons than you have items. If you are buying shampoo and you have a manufacturer coupon, store coupon, and RR, you'll need to pick up 2 other items--I usually grab those little knee-high eggs that are .33, pack of gum, pocket folder, etc... … [Read more...]

Walgreens How To’s Part 1

walgreens-logo

Walgreens has a customer rewards program called Register Rewards. Every week Walgreen's selects certain products to have Register Rewards attached. When you purchase these items, Register Rewards print out at the end of the transaction. They are like "play money" that you may spend on anything in the store. You can then roll those Register Rewards to pay for other items that have Register Rewards and just keep that process going.  You may also use a coupon with these.  Rule to remember: you cannot have more coupons than you have items and RR count as a coupon.  Throw a .25 piece of candy up there to make it work. For example, look at the following scenario: Pantene shampoo has $3 RR attached and Pantene is on sale for $3. Crest Mouthwash has $3 RR attached and is on sale for $3 Suave Deodorant has $2 RR attached and is on sale for $2. Here's how I would work that scenario: (These will have to be rung in separate transactions.)I always start with the item that requires the least amount of money out of my pocket and the one I have the most coupons for. (1) Buy the Pantene shampoo for $3. Use $1 off Pantene manufacturer coupon. Total paid: $2 plus tax. Earned $3 RR. (2) Buy the Crest Mouthwash for $3 Use $1 off manufacturer coupon. Use $3 RR earned in transaction (1). I'm using 2 coupons so I need to buy another item, AND they do not give change back if you have money left over on your RR, so I wanna make sure I spend it all, so I'm gonna put a 2 liter soda up there for $1. Total paid : sales tax only. Earned $3 RR (3) Buy Suave Deodorant for $2 Use the $3 RR earned in transaction (2). Buy something else for $1. Total paid: sales tax only. Total purchases $10, paid only $2 plus sales tax. Sometimes I save my last RR to start next week's transactions with so I don't have to pull money out of my pocket. … [Read more...]

CVS Coupon Policy Letter

Thanks Jenny from Southern Savers for posting this letter received by a reader from CVS regarding their coupon policies: If you have had any issues with using coupons at CVS lately, this email is about the best I have seen as far as detailing out coupon issues and having a corporate answer for it. I have removed the original person who asked the question but the remainder of the email is an untouched copy of their response. From: Store Comments [mailto:StoreComments@cvs.com] Sent: Friday, January 08, 2010 1:31 PM To: Subject: CVS/pharmacy Response 08300079 CVS/pharmacy® Dear , Thank you for your e-mail regarding CVS/pharmacy coupon policy. I do apologize that each CVS/pharmacy you go to tells you something different. Our registers are set to allow one CVS coupon and one manufacturer coupon per item. However, the staff should be allowing customers to use Extra Bucks in combination with other CVS coupons since these are coupons you have “earned.” In addition, they should be allowing the use of one “offer at the register” coupon which would be an open offer of $3 off of $15 or a certain dollar amount off of a specific item. Since our registers are programmed to only accept two coupons (one CVS, one manufacturer) per item if the number of coupons exceed the items purchased a member of management will need to assist the cashier in processing the coupons. CVS/pharmacy will accept coupons printed from the Internet. They must have a legible barcode that scans at the register. If the coupon does not scan at the register, the cashier should politely inform you that we are unable to accept your coupon. We do not allow manual overrides at the register for coupons printed from the Internet. CVS/pharmacy will not accept offers printed from unauthorized internet postings or reproductions, copies, or facsimiles. When an item is on sale for buy one, get one free and the customer has a buy one get one free coupon for … [Read more...]
